Its Possible if You Believe
There is a large unconscious framework of behavior and experience, it is called our beliefs; people can be taught and they can learn new skills; however, if a person believes they can’t do something, they will unconsciously find a way to prevent the change from happening.
One kind of belief a person may have is that whatever thing they decided to do it is possible. This means that the goal or outcome will be attained no matter what happens. If there is no belief that something is possible, then odds are there won’t be any attempts made to act upon whatever you want done, and the usual response will be hopelessness.
Another kind of belief is that if you have whatever it takes to reach your goal, or outcome. This means that you have the mindset and believe that you have all the resources to accomplish the goal. On the other hand, a person may believe that things are possible for others but not possible for themselves. A person with that type of belief ends up in hopeless situations and does not take action to improve things.
A third type of belief has to do with expectancy. It is said that what we expect is usually what we get. If you as a person do not expect to accomplish the goal that you set for yourself, then no action will be taken. Think about the placebo effect, if someone takes a drug they expect to feel better, and they will feel better even though the drug that was given to them was actually a sugar pill. This metaphor can be expanded; when there is an expectation of accomplishment, it will happen.
Beliefs can be detected in a person’s language. Now consider if there is something that you believe in and if you stopped believing in it would things be better? Would new doors be open? Or would there be an atmosphere of uncertainty?
There are steps that can be done to change beliefs; it can be done on you, or with others:
1) Pick a belief that you would like to change, or something you want to change with somebody else
2) Think of something that you do not believe, something that you doubt strongly
3) Pay attention to the sub-modalities, write them down, and then compare the differences in the sub-modalities between the groups.
4) When you have the sub-modalities written on a list, pick a new belief, something that will replace the old belief you want to drop.
5) Construct the new belief with the sub-modalities of what you believe in strongly. After constructing the picture and it is what you want, set it aside for a moment.
6) Now take the old belief the one that you want to change and fill it with the sub-modalities of how you doubt something.
7) As soon as the old belief is in doubt, then bring in the new belief with the sub-modalities of what you believe strongly
8) Look at the old belief do you doubt it? If not go back to what you what you doubt strongly and compare them, and find anything that you have missed.
9) Look at the new belief do you believe in it strongly? If not, pick another strong belief, one that you like, and compare the sub-modalities until you have the new belief is just as strongly.
This was great.. one of few people who say it like it is and you explain it so simply and well.
