Arrogance or Diplomacy

It’s been quite a busy week for True_George, things that I wanted to get done didn’t get done for one reason or another. This includes paying attention to my musing right here on True_George. The past week was kind of eventful as far as the activities of President Donlad Trump.  Can you imagine that the start of the American Revolution was the shot heard around the world. Well, nowadays the shot that was heard around the world was the moment that President Donald Trump chastised President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Ukraine, another head of state on a live international television coverage. Zelenskyy was later kicked out of the White House.

Well, as we know Zelenskyy was at the White House to sign an agreement given the United States access to Ukraine’s rear earth mineral deposits. The US President brokered the deal as a way for Ukraine to payback the amount of monetary aide that was given to the Ukraine in its war effort against Russia.

What the world saw was not a scripted choreographed joint press conference what we usually see when two heads of state sit down in chairs that resemble thrones, have a chit chat, as though they are friends, and shake hands smiling while the camera lights are flashing. Then they go and have a state lunch or dinner.

Well, this one was unscripted, I suppose it is part of Trump wanting his administration to be more transparent. The mineral deal was worked out and Zelenskyy and Trump just needed to make it formal by signing the document. Which was supposed to be done after they have the state lunch.

Trump’s goals were to use this deal as a bridge to negotiate an end to the war, perhaps start off with a cease fire. Talking about security, a Reporter pointed out that Zelenskyy was shaking his head in disagreement. Zelenskyy had doubts that Valdimir Putin the Russian President will abide by any cease fire agreement. He cited prior experience that Putin always break agreements, even when he signed a document. Zelenskyy asserts that a cease fire won’t work and was demanding security guarantees.

Zelenskyy doesn’t agree that diplomacy will work, his reasoning was that Putin didn’t do what he agreed to do in past agreements.

Trump and his Vice-President J.D Vance felt slighted and from there the Trump berated Zelenskyy calling him out for not being open towards working to end the war. Also, for not showing appreciation for the monetary and military assistance that the United States is giving to Ukraine, pointing out that without the assistance that the war could have been over in less that a week.

There have been many reactions, some of them faults how Trump treated Zelenskyy, and some of them praised the actions that Trump did, saying Zelenskyy overplayed is position.

From what True_George hears Zelenskyy did not follow the advice from his advisors. First, Zelenskyy was instructed to show up wearing a suit and tie. He was supposed to sit down with Trump, and thank the US for the commitment and assistance that was provided, shake Trump’s hand and have lunch, sign the document, and perhaps he could have extracted more from the US in his war effort.

Instead, Zelenskyy showed up in a designer jogging suit, when he was sitting down with the US President, his body language indicated he was in a defensive posture. He was rolling his eyes when the President was speaking. He attempted to renegotiate what was agreed upon in front of the cameras and then got into it with US Vice President J D Vance.

Everything went south, Trump wants the war to end, Zelenskyy wants to continue the war, except for Zelenskyy cannot finance, or have the equipment to continue fighting. Ukraine relies on assistance heavily from outside forces. European nations and the United States of America are the ones that make it possible for Ukraine to put up a fight. But the United Staes is the one who have provided more financing, and equipment combined more than the European nations. The difference between what the European nations give and what the United States give is that the European assistance comes in a form of a loan, but the United States assistance was unconditional. Hench Trump attempted to make the mineral deal to get some form of a payback.

Now that the deal is up in smoke Trump stated that if Zelenskyy won’t consider peace talks that the US will no longer provide assistance. As of now to date, Trump has suspended all military aide to the Ukraine.

What do you say…

I try to refrain from posting about political events, unless it is something out of the ordinary. When I do I take the objective perspective. But its only been one month since Trump was elected President, and there has been a lot of things happening that is anything but business as usual. The way things are going there may be more reports on the shenanigans happening on Capitol Hill.

  1. When I first saw that Trump was having talks with Putin to try to get a peaceful end to his aggression in Ukraine, I thought ‘what a statesman’ and really respected him for that. Then, all of a sudden, he seems to be saying that Ukraine are the aggressors instead of the people being attacked in order for Russia to carry out a landgrab (complete with population). I’m very disappointed in him! I have to admit to not having seen anything on their meeting and, from what you say, I can see that maybe Zelenskyy wound him up.

    • Yeah, Trump can rant..
Zelenskyy is a hard man to deal with even had a shouting match with Biden (prior US President) but he caved in to what Zelenskyy wanted. Trump has a stronger personality and he is not putting up with Zelenskyy’s nonsense…
