Wings of a Dove

Fandango’s One word challenge: Wing Span.

When thinking of this word, a few things came to mind, the first was Angels, the fictional kind that we associate with some sort of God. Then there is the X-Men original character “Angel” before he became the “Dark Angel.”

Then there is the eagle, the symbol of the United States; of course an eagle is a high order predator and given how much the US government has interfered in the affairs of other nations, and CIA operations to destabilized other governments the eagle may just be the correct symbol depicting   how the US government preys on weaker governments.

Then we have the dove. The universal symbol of peace. Even in the bible Noel sent the dove to discover if there was any sight of land after the great flood. But in the scheme of things, either Noel made a mistake, or the translation was wrong. A dove is a pretty bird, but when it comes to flying great distances the pigeon reigns supreme. So, those who are not blind have determined it was the pigeon that was released to find land and brought back the branch. In reality the dove wouldn’t have made it back.

Anyway, I don’t want to run away from my original idea, it was to post a song called “Wings of a Dove.” Originally done as a Country Western song by the Ferlin Husky. Then by the great Wailers (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer).

Incidentally I just want to make it clear that despite Country Western music fans being mad about Beyonce’s album. Even saying that Country music isn’t a genre of music black people sing and Beyonce has no right making a Country album.  The truth is, and anyone can research it, that Country music has its origins with black people who were the ones who developed Country music and has been involved in the genre since its inception. Plus, anyone has a right to express themselves with any type of musical genre that they choose.

O.K, getting back to “Wings of a Dove,” there were two versions by The Wailers and one by Ferlin Husky. I happen to like all.  You pick which one you like.

  1. My initial thoughts on ‘wing span’ go back to when I was learning to fly – especially when you had to ‘park’ the aircraft back on the apron and make sure your wing tips didn’t clobber anyone else’s – harder than you think as you can’t really judge how long they are looking along them! I think I used to just err heavily on the side of caution!

That is one beautiful photo of a dove wherever you found it – truly gorgeous. I have doves visiting my garden and they’re lovely birds. ‘Bird of Peace’ made me laugh a bit once though when I saw 2 doves chasing a large rook off the garden and all the way across the fields really going it for it. I watched out of the window and just said to myself ‘bird of peace my arse!’
