Fed Ex Job
On this night in the dream space, I saw that I was on some sort of list to be a Fed ex delivery employee. It started out with me receiving a job offer to be a part time package deliverer with Fed ex. I was picked for the job and on my first day I was on the street waiting for the Fed ex driver to pick me up to go on the delivery route.
After I was picked up by the driver, we never made any stops before the driver pulled into a parking lot. In the lot there was a coffee shop. There were waitress on roller skates going up to the cars or trucks and taking orders, and delivering the orders to the cars. It was like what would see on a 1950’s theme shows like “Happy Days.”
I got out of the Fed ex truck, and I got into a car. The car looked like it was made out of wood. Then one of the waitresses on roller skates, she came to the car window with a tray of food. I asked her why did she bring it to me, I didn’t order anything. After I refused the order, she took it back to the café.
I took a good look at the café building; it looked like a condemned building. I was wondering how they are catering to people from a building that wouldn’t pass a health department inspection. It’s a good thing that I never accepted the food order, who knows what the conditions are like inside the building.
After that I drove the car out of the parking lot without regard that I had a job to do. I ended up back home.
I got a feeling that Fed ex was not happy that I left without telling them. Leaving the driver to do the rounds by himself. I got on my bike and was riding it to the Fed ex facility. As I was going to the facility. The Fed ex driver that I left was coming down the opposite direction looking for me.
When we met up, he asked in a Jamaican accent, “what happened?” and that the Fed ex facility manager wanted to speak to me. He wanted to know whether he should fire me or forgive me for leaving. So I put my bike in the back of the Fed ex truck, hopped in the cab and went to the Fed ex facility to speak to the manager.
When I got to the facility, the person in charge was the supervisor, and he was talking in a Jamaican accent on how he and the rest of the crew came to the country and worked hard. The rest of the crew were also Jamaicans, and they wanted to know the reason why I skipped out on the driver.
I didn’t really want to talk to the group, because I thought that it is inappropriate to talk about something that should be handled by the administration office. But, I did tell them that I didn’t feel like I wanted to work as a Fed ex delivery person.
The supervisor said that the manager is waiting for me, that he is two buildings down and that I couldn’t miss it. I followed the instructions to go two buildings down. While I was on the way the driver came with me to make sure that I arrived.
When I got to the building, it looked like a mechanic shop rather then an office. When I went in I did not see any office equipment, but the sort of things one would see in a workshop. I also notice that I heard a sports commentator describing the plays of what I recognize to be a cricket match. I saw an old fashion looking stereo radio receiver where the cricket match was being broad casted.
I was kind of impressed because I was looking for that type of radio receiver for a while. I saw a whole stereo with pre amp, power amp and regular amplifier, along with an equalizer. This is something that I was hoping to get but had not found a store selling the stuff.
I saw the manager; he was also speaking in a Jamaican accent. I asked him about the stereo equipment. He said it was something he put together from stretch.
I told him that I was also a trained technician. That I learned how to repair electronic equipment. Which in reality I did take a course in radio, television, VCR repair. But once you know how to fix those things you can apply the knowledge to any other type of electronics.
To show the manager that I was legit, I described the components of the schematic that he had on the wall. I told him when I was training as a technician, the school used to have radio kits, and we had to use the kit to build a radio. I was wondering if he had a kit to build the stereo system.
All that me and the manager discussed was about electronics, and building a sound system with the stereo equipment. The manager mentioned or even asked why I didn’t want to be an Fed ex-employee, and why I skipped out on the driver…

That was a more light-hearted dream than some of them. I took electronics for a year after I left school – I found I was brilliant at the technical knowledge but cr*p at the practical work!
