Rag Tag Formation
It’s common that I usually have dreams of still being and feeling that I’m in the National Guard. I suppose that last night’s dream went along those lines. But there were some elements that didn’t make sense.
It started out seeing a group of people, some of them were familiar faces that I’ve seen from my old unit and some guys from my American Legion post.
We were in civilian clothes that looked like late 1700’s clothing. That aspect maybe influenced by my binged watching of the show called “Poldark.” I saw that we were in formation mustering for roll call. Then the formation fell out and individuals were doing various things.
There was supposed to be some type of training going on, but I had to travel to another armory to do it. I saw the armory it was a cross between the original armory that I used to do my drill weekends in Park Slope during the early years in the National Guard, and the Bedford Ave armory in Crown Hights were I drilled at for a couple of years.
When I got to the entrance of that armory, I saw that two squads were falling into formation. The third squad was my squad and since I was there, I took the squad leader’s position in the formation. Once I took the position the rest of the squad members lined up.
The formation leader mentioned that it’s been a while since we’ve been in a formation, that we should remember to dress right dress and be shoulder width apart.
The funny thing that happened, instead of doing the dress right dress formality to get the spacing, the formation put their hands on their hip and measured the distance where the elbows touched the individual standing next to them.
Then the formation fell out and the individuals in the formation went to their respective training area.
I ran into a woman who was looking for her lost child. We started looking for the child together. Then another woman appeared and told her that she knew where the child was.
The women revealed to the child’s mother that the child was hiding in her tree house. The child mother got upset with the woman and asked how she can allow the child to hide in the tree house and not tell anyone that he was there.
The woman never gave the child’s mother an answer, then I found that all three of us were standing below the tree house. The child’s mother said that she is going to teach the child a lesson.
The child’s mother took some matches and lit a structure that looked like a supporting beam that reached up to the base (bottom) of the tree house. The flames traveled up to the beam destroying it.
When the supporting beam burnt up, the bottom of the tree house fell out. As the tree house bottom was free falling from the tree. I could see the little boy on the falling tree house floor clinging onto something that looked like a pole.
The pole was an extension of the support beam. The pole went up from the floor to the tree house roof.
As the floor was free falling and the scared little boy holding onto the pole, me and the woman (tree house owner) looked in disgust that the child’s mother is putting her child in danger.
But, then the child’s mother called an eagle and the eagle flew down and grabbed the top of the pole stopping the tree house base from falling, and carried it to safety.
Then the scene shifted to that of some sort of confidence course. The unit’s females were suppose to navigate this course. It had them crawling through black capsules mounted on the supporting post of a barb wired fence. The field that the barb wired fence was around looked like it was burned. I swear that the field looked like a World War One battle field, with the barb wire fence cordoning off a trench.
The female personal was going through the course moving in and out of those black capsules that was perched on the supporting post of a barb wire fence, when they came across a dead body that was in one of the capsules.
The training exercise turned into a corpse recovery exercise, transporting the dead body to the end of the course.
Then the scene shifted to the highest point of the armory’s roof. The highest point was a statue. I got an impression that there was an operation that made a soldier go up to the roof, to go down to the other side of the armory’s building. But this time accessing the top of the statute was symbolic to commemorate that past operation.
Also, on the top of the statute’s head was some kind of a bolt that acts as a rope holder. But the rope has to be changed every year.
I saw that I was on top of the statue’s head, I was removing the bolt from out of the statue’s head and fashioning a new rope into the bolt and then replacing the bolt back into the statute’s head.
After that was done, I don’t recall anything else that makes conscious sense.

That is a long and involved dream! I get a lot of very complicated dreams – I always assume it’s because I’m stressed out a lot and so not properly wound down when I go to sleep.
I had to laugh when I pictured your military squad right-dress by all putting their hands on their hips and right-dressing from their elbows – you could imagine them all going ‘oooh’ like a load of gays when they did it!
