Weekend Drill

Not sure what was the idea behind this type of dream that occurred. Maybe it was the news, anyway, I dreamed that I was still in the National Guard and was going on a weekend drill.

The normal things that we do to prepare for a drill was done, but when I went on the bus to go to the military installation where the drill was supposed to take place. I saw that there were families of the recent migrants, the families had young children with them on the bus. They were integrated with the unit.

Those families were placed on the bus to ride with the unit because they were going to be housed on that military installation where our drill was supposed to take place.

When the bus got to the military installation, we got off the bus and headed towards the barracks. With my duffle bag on my shoulder, I walked in the barracks building, and to my surprised I saw migrant families were also assigned to the same barracks. They already picked out their bunks, leaving me and members of the unit to look for the leftover bunks.

Not sure why these migrant families would be placed with the unit, but you can imagine that with young children running around, what kind of atmosphere it was, which was not ideal for the unit given that we had to be up before six in the morning.

The following day came, and the migrant families were supposed to be processed. They had index cards with instructions written on where each of the processing stations were located.

One of them asked me to read what was on the indexed card because he doesn’t know how to read English. I read the instructions, couldn’t help that the instructions sounded similar to the instructions of the processing stations that I was given when I was doing my pre-deployment training before being deployed to Iraq.

I read the instructions, and he still could not understand what to do, so I decided to go with him to each station as I read the instructions.

While following the instructions to the tee, we still got lost but always ended up back at the barracks. I don’t know how to help this dude, I suggested that he go to the officials that gave him the card and demand that they help him figure things out.

After leaving the migrant dude to sort out his own problems, I found myself going to a store on base, looking for a newspaper to buy. I saw the daily news, I took a copy, but before I left the store, I saw a weekly copy of the news paper called “The Chief.”

The Chief is a newspaper that has information about civil service jobs. My thoughts were that maybe I can find a state job when I retire from my city government bureaucrat position. Not that I have the age or is ready to retire.

After that, things became too distorted to make any conscience sense, hell, this whole dream didn’t make any sense to me. Even after pondering it.

  1. An interesting one though. Sounds a bit like one of my what I call ’round and round’ dreams where a lot happens but nothing gets achieved and you wake up feeling mentally frustrated! It sounds like it should mean something but I’m sure it was probably prompted by something you’d seen on the news. Most of my dreams can be attributed to things which happened during the day or which are preying on my mind.
