Church Wedding

After coming back in from the second gig, I had in my mind to get up and make an effort to go to my martial arts center to work out a little. I haven’t been able to do a workout since my promotion to a managing government bureaucrat. I must report to the government building in upper Manhattan, and by the time I get back to Brooklyn in the evening, the martial arts center is closed. The only thing that I’ve been doing is weight training.

But the plans to visit the martial arts center didn’t manifest, since this was the one day of rest, the laziness got the better of me and I lounged around in bed a bit longer. This is when this dream experience occurred.

There was some sort of church atmosphere, in fact inside the church looked like Saint Oswald church, where I used to go during my younger years. A wedding was taking place.

The wedding must have been taking place during the night because the church was dark. There were no light and the candles only made inside the church semi dark.

A storm was brewing up outside, hearing the wind blow, as the groom waited at the alter, and the bridal procession was making its way to the alter. The wind made an eerie howl.

When the bride finally got to the alter to the groom, the ceremony did not start right away. There was some sort of conversation going on between the bride, the groom and the Priest.

Then the bridal party turned around and started making its way away from the alter. Everyone in the congregation was stunned to see that the wedding was being put off.

The groom announced that the bride refused to marry because she saw a dead squirrel around the altar’s area.  The squirrel must have found its way inside the church seeking shelter from the elements outside. But it was in poor health and died.

When the bride saw the dead squirrel, she thought it was an omen, and that if the wedding was to proceed that the marriage would be marred by bad luck.

The bride and groom wanted to have a happy marriage and that they didn’t want this sort of thing hanging over their heads, so they decided to get married at another date when conditions are more favorable.

Observing this event, the thought popped into my head. “I wonder if something like this would have happened if this was a Muslim wedding?”

Another thought popped up, with another question, “I wonder what the Islamic approach to entities is, and omens?” I haven’t heard of Muslims dealing with demons, and other entities apart from the Jin.

Is the jin the only thing that the Muslims recognize, then the possible solution to the question came to mind. The voice said that I should look into it..

As the bridal party opened the door to exit the church, the church was flooded with sunlight, and as the sun’s rays eliminated the darkness, we could see that there was no storm, it was a nice sunny day.

  1. Well at least it wasn’t a violent dream! That’s quite a strange and interesting dream – the way it seems to be dark and with a storm raging outside and then, when the doors are opened, it’s actually a beautiful day – there must be some kind of message there somewhere.

Anyway, it prompted me to Google the djinn / jinn which I’m familiar with from my visits to Jordan in the early 2000s. I was fascinated to see in Wiki that our word ‘genie’ is an anglicisation of their djinn.

    • Yeah, in western made movies the genie is often portrayed as a powerful being who is a prisoner and serves those who give them a moment of freedom. But in the Arab world the Jin is evil.
Yeah it was a strange dream indeed.. still pondering the meaning
