Wondering Soul

Black people in a doctor's waiting room

I had an appointment to see my doctor, I went through the check in process, my vitals and my weight were recorded. After the check in process was completed, I was told to have a seat in the waiting room until the doctor is ready to see me.

I had my head phones and cell phone to keep me occupied until the doctor calls me. Browsing through some websites doing a little research on a company that was soliciting some business from me, I took a little break from doing the research. When I lowered the cell phone and put it into my lap.

My head was down, maybe I was in the in between sleep and wake mode. I raised my head, and I saw an older gentleman in a wheel chair.  I acknowledged his presence with a nod. When I did that, the man rolled the wheel chair towards me.

When the man was in front of me, he held out his hand and said that he is short of money and asked me if I could give him some change.

I said to the man, “look where we are, we are in a doctor’s office, and when I come here, I do not carry any money with me. I cannot help you with because I have nothing in my pockets.”

After I told the old man in the wheel chair what I said, I must have shifted my seating position because my cell phone that was on my lap rolled down my lap onto the floor, and when the cell phone hit the floor, it rolled some distance away from me.

When I was about to get up to go get the cell phone, I heard the doctor call my name. Hearing my name called jolted me back to a conscience state. I found that my head was down while I was seating in the waiting room chair, the cell phone was still in my lap and there was no old man in a wheel chair present on the entire floor.

Leaves me pondering, if this was a dream, or a was wondering soul making his presence known.
