Has your idea of what makes a good friend changed as you’ve gotten older?

Pondering about my friendship with others throughout the years. Hell, I can tell you from the point when I was in grade school, all the way to late adolescent, that at some point I’ve had fist fights with the majority of my friends for one reason or another, many were for dumb reasons.

Whenever I fought with a so-called friend, after the fight was over, things would go back to normal. Well, at least from my point of view.

Now that I am a little bit more mature, I sometimes wonder, if things were indeed normal from the friend’s point of view? After hitting a mature age, I learned that people can harbor some resentment for things that were done to them, even if they are your friends, or even family.

While growing up, it was very rear that I would end up on the losing end of a fist fight, so I wonder what kind of resentment that was harbored from those who I called friends who were on the losing end of my fists.

Now, on the other hand, there were some friendships that developed after a fight. I could tell you that the relationships with those that developed after a fist fight were the most genuine ones.

At some point when it came to friendship things became more psychological, and friendship became more about a meeting of the mind kind of thing, so if there were disagreements or  breaking off a friendship, it did not climax into a fist fight.

Well, as you can see my friendships have been volatile, fists fights during my developing years, to psychological wrangling as I got older. But, rest assure, things got more stable as the years went on, so yeah, my idea of what makes a good friend has indeed changed has I got older.
