RIP Larry the Cat
I got a call from my son’s mother, asking for some money to take her cat Larry to the Vet because he was having some breathing problems.
Well, I wasn’t keen on giving her any money, but since she is looking after my cat while I get my housing situation under control, I felt an obligation to help her get medical attention for her cat.
The Vet said that Larry developed asthma, and gave him some medication. After baby mama told me the diagnosis, I didn’t believe her. I’ve never heard a cat developing asthma.
I had to look it up, and it seems that cats developing asthma is a real thing. They call it “feline asthma,” or “bronchially hyperactivity.” The condition causes inflammation in the airways. I guess it is similar to asthma in humans. I guess it is what it is.
The medication did some good, it was expensive and got her from calling me complaining about getting help for Larry.
But as they say “all good things must end.” The medication finished, and now baby mama starts calling me and nagging me asking me for more assistance. Just what I need, all I hear when a woman is nagging me is blah, blah, blah.
OK True_George has a softness in the heart for cats, and agreed to foot the bill for Larry’s medical treatment, even though it may cost thousands. Imagine that medical bills for our four-legged ferry friends cost just as much as medical bills for us humans.
But fortunate for me that I have pet insurance since the last time my cat needed medical treatment. The current plan that I have would reimburse me 50% of the medical bill.
Then, before Larry was to be taken to the animal hospital, baby mama called me back and she was frantic; she informed me that Larry had died. She said that Larry was struggling to breath and he started to throw up, his mouth was full of hair, and when he stopped breathing blood was coming from his mouth.
Now that Larry the Cat is dead, she didn’t know what to do; so I gave her instructions to put the body in a plastic bag and I’ll come and get it.
Before I left for the trip uptown to Harlem, I prepared a burial place in my garden behind the garage.
Reflecting on this Larry the cat, I found him on the street when he was a few weeks old kitten, and since I already had a cat, I gave him to baby mama. Over the years, all this cat did was eat and sleep, He would hiss and take swipes at anyone he is not familiar with. I guess I’m going to miss the little dude.

Yeah cats can get asthma – I think dogs can too and probably lots of other pets. But it sounds more like Larry actually died of choking on a hair ball judging by the description. Sorry to hear about it anyway – poor cat – he sounded a lot like our cat Ziggy when I was a teen – he could be grumpy and vicious but we loved him just the same.
