On this day I was spending the night at girlfriend’s house; we weren’t doing anything special. While sitting on the couch watching a little T.V, it wasn’t long before I was no longer seeing images on the flat screen T.V, but started to see images that was produced by the subconscious.

I saw that I was on the block where I used to live. I walked to the corner store to buy some food. Before reaching the store, I passed a woman with two children who was begging in the street. She asked me if I had anything to spare. I told her no since I no longer carry cash because I use my credit card to make purchases instead of cash.  

While I was in the store, I decided to buy some extra food items with the plan on giving it to the beggar woman on my back up the block.

After I made the purchase and left the store with the bags in my hand, I was approaching the location where the beggar woman was, I could see that she was begging money from two strangers.      

As I approached, I decided not to stop and give the beggar woman anything because she didn’t ask me for anything. It was too bad because I was getting ready to give her something. But here in New York City, there are many beggars who are not really beggars. Begging is big business, many so called beggars are not really down and out.

On the other hand, the so called down and out people nine out of ten times are getting some kind of government benefit.  For example you see somebody in a wheelchair with a missing leg, a blind person etc. Odds are there are receiving some type of social security payment, as well as food stamps. They may be living in some type of government subsided support house. If not, they may be living in public housing which is also subsided by the government, or they are in one of those rent subsided programs which will allow them to live in private housing at market rate, with the government picking up a portion of the rent.

Sometimes one could see pass the façade, this is why I never give away my hard-earned money because you can’t tell who is scamming. Anyway, my underlining question is why did this sort of dream about not giving anything to the beggar woman pop up?
