The Eyes

It is said that the Eyes are the windows of the soul. The eyes don’t lie and that it is a dead giveaway if you say one thing but mean another. In the life that we live one can give up their psychological control and submit it to another through the method of eye contact. In  business you will be perceived has been weak if there is no eye contact at the initial meeting, in seduction the eyes tell us when that woman has that doggy dinner bone look, and in general when speaking with someone, we can tell if what we are saying has an impact with the person. I want to talk a bit about the eyes. For starters let’s look at technical mechanics of how our eyes work.

Eye-Diagram

Vision begins with light, and light is a form of electromagnetic radiation which is measured in wavelengths. The size of the radiation wavelength corresponds to different types of energy. The wavelength that human beings are sensitive too is called the “visual spectrum,” The visual spectrum is relatively small on the radiation chart.  Once the light hits an object, it is reflected through a transparent protective window of the eye called the cornea. The cornea bends the light wave and the bent light wave goes through the pupil. The pupil is the colored spot in the middle of the white part of the eye. We call the white part of the eye the iris. As the light passes through the pupil, it enters the eye lens; the eye lens is located directly behind the pupil. Once, the light hits the lens, the lens does a process called “accommodation.”  The process involves taking the light, bending it and focusing it appropriately on the rear of the eye; by changing its thickness, becoming flatter when viewing an object at a distance, and rounder when viewing an object that is near. At the rear of the eye is the retina, it takes the image of the object, and converts it into neural codes, which travels to the brain, and the brain interprets the codes allowing us to recognize the object.

Now that you have an idea of what goes on in less than a split second when we see something, we are going to back up and focus on the pupil. A hypnotist, an expert communicator, or when practicing the art of seduction (sexually or otherwise), the pupil is the thing that the communicator pay attention too. So let us understand what the pupil does. The size of the pupil depends on the light in the environment. The brighter the light, the smaller the pupil becomes, which increases the range of distance on the object that we are viewing making it clearer. The dimmer the light the larger the pupil becomes, expanding for us to view the object better, usually at the expensive of visual detail. In essence the pupil controls the amount of light that goes through the eyes.

Now let’s see what happens to the pupil when we are in a suggestible state. Whenever the fight or flight response is triggered, the pupils increase in size, focusing on the situation or the person to the point where nothing else is seen. Hence the term tunnel vision. When a person find someone, or something appealing to them their pupils increase in size, when a hypnotist put someone into trance, (not talking about somnambulism), the pupils become dilate (increase), when you are using seduction techniques with a woman her eyes become dilated. What am I saying here?  I’m saying that the eyes are one of the few parts of the body that are absolutely uncontrollable by the conscious mind;  and when the person is in a suggestible state the eyes will give them away. All you have to do is notice the size of the pupils; it is a sign of increased focused attention. Biologically other things might be happening, like the increasing of the heart rate, the sense of smell, and touch will increase, etc. You might not notice if this is happening, however, by paying attention to the eyes when communicating you will notice that the pupils increase in size. So unless you frightened the person, you will know that the person is in trance. If you notice that the pupil size becomes larger as the person looks at you the first time you meet. The person either is attracted to you, or you excited them in some way. So establishing rapport with that person takes place in no time because unconsciously rapport is already there, and it is up to you to pick it up. I would like to point out that the lighter the eye pupils; the easier it will be for you to notice that it is dilated. It may be harder to tell if a person with brown pupils is dilated, because the pupil’s background color is black. Brown has a weaker contrast to black. You may want to give that extra attention. So the next time you talk with somebody that is interested in you, notice how their eyes look, in comparison to somebody that the person does not have the same level of interest in you.

Accessing Cues

Human beings do a process within our heads that allow us to see pictures (visual), hear sounds (auditory), and hear our voice when think things over or talk to ourselves (audio digital), some people will say, hey I don’t talk to myself; well if the person is a human being he or she does. It is the internal dialogue that we all do. In addition we bring up feelings (kinesthetic) within ourselves, whether the feelings are internal or external. When these processes take place within the brain, the eyes assume a particular position. The part of the eye that will be making the movements will be the pupils. The eye positions that I will be talking about are generalized, to a normally organized right-handed person. The point of view is the person looking at you, so when I say left, it’s your left, and when I say right it’s your right. I hope you got it? But if you don’t you can always look at the charted image.

Eye Accessing Cues

When a person is constructing images, for example wanting to see Michael Jackson in a polka dot dress, the pupils will be positioned in the upper left corner of the eye. When a person is remembering visual images, for example, remembering the color of the paint on the bedroom wall. The pupils will be positioned in the upper right corner of the eye. When a person is constructing sounds, an example would be imagining hearing their father rapping to music. The pupils will be positioned in the left center of the eye. When remembering sounds, an example would be remembering their favorite song; the pupils will be in the right center of the eye. Whenever the person is accessing feelings, be it external, or internal, remembered, or constructed, for example the feel of ice touching their toes. The eyes will be in the bottom left corner of the eye. Finally, when the person is having an internal dialogue, or thinking to him or herself, an example would be making comments in their head while somebody is speaking. The eyes will be positioned in the lower right corner of the eye.

At times when talking with a person, their pupils may be looking straight ahead de-focused, or dilated. It indicates they are accessing their sensory information at a heightened pace, primarily visual. As mentioned before, they are in trance. Now for left-handed people, who are normally organized, the eye accessing cues are the opposite to that of a normally organized right-handed person. I also want you to understand that there are exceptions to the rule. There are a percentage of people that do not correspond to generalized behavior, even if they are normally organized. The term normally organized refers to not being challenged mentally, or otherwise. That is one of the reasons why you calibrate, to the individual you are communicating with. Calibration is another, discussion for another time.

Finally pay attention to the rate of blinking. This is the cue that tells you if the person with whom you are communicating with is attempting to deceive you. If the person does not exhibit signs of being anxious, then what he is saying to you has no credibility Often the pupils will go to the bottom left corner of the eye, and a high rate of blinking will occur at the same time.
