Zombie Cure
I’m at the second gig tonight, doing a favor for the second gig’s program director. She asked me if I could cover the graveyard shift tonight, the regular person cannot make it in, he called out at the last minute, and she cannot get anyone else on short notice. The program director said that in exchange for staying the night, I could report to work three hours later from my clock in time on my next shift, she’ll make sure I get paid for those three hours.
Wow, she must be pretty desperate to get someone to work the graveyard shift. The incentive of being able to come in three hours late is really a non-issue, after all, I don’t really need the extra money. But, I’ll make a mental note, perhaps I can use it to extract something a bit more tangible from her, just got to put it in a way that it won’t turn into an EEO issue.
Anyway, it is not too bad doing the graveyard shift. My work partner will be the one doing all the work which isn’t too much giving that there is virtually no activity going on at night. While I hang out in the back, catching up on my E-mail, and perhaps watching a movie or two.
I put my feet up, maybe I was fatigued from the day’s activities. It wasn’t long before I experienced that body asleep, mind awake phenomenon that sometimes happens. Something I’ve mentioned a few times in the dream journal.
As, I was sitting in the chair, I felt the chair being propelled forward to some unknown destination. I briefly opened my eyes, I saw my laptop in front of me, this made me realize that I was still in place. I closed my eyes, and again I felt the sensation of the chair being propelled forward. This time at a faster rate.
The feeling of being propelled suddenly stopped when images of a forest appeared. It appears that there is some sort of conflict going on between two groups. One group was pursuing the other. I did not get a feeling for the reason of the conflict, perhaps one group were rebels and the other enforcers.
Then the point of view shifted from me observing the armed group in the forest, to me being one of the participants in the armed group that was being pursued. It was like participating in an infantry exercise at Fort Dix.
The group that I was with stumbled on some sort of portal, at least it appeared to be a portal. A supply of bottled water appeared out of the portal. Crates of bottled water were stacked up on pallets.
I got the feeling that the supply of water should not fall in the hands of the enemy. The plan was to unstack the bottled water and conceal the crates of water in the forest.
The funny thing about this was that we floated up to the top of the stacked water and pulled the wooden support and the plastic wrapping off the stacked crates of water. When the plastic wrapping was off, we spread the crates of water across the area and camouflage the water with the forest’s brush and leaves.
Then the enemy appeared, and we were forced into a direct confrontation. We had to have a direct confrontation because we hadn’t finished camouflaging the water. While a couple of us were finishing the camouflage, the others were engaging in the fire fight.
As the enemy appeared I could see that they resembled zombies, but we were killing them with shots to the body. Strange to see zombies fall after getting shot in the body. Usually, one would have to put a bullet in the zombies’ brains to stop them.
I didn’t see that outcome of the fire fight between my group and the group of zombies because there was a sudden shift in scenery.
The scene now looks like a setting that I only see when I visit a seaside resort. I could see the beach chairs; they were full of patrons.
Now, this is where things get a bit tricky, there were some type of politics going on. I got a feeling that there was a doctor who had found a way to cure the zombie condition. Even though the cure was widespread, it didn’t completely cure the condition, the cure made the zombie have use of their faculties, and they can move around like regular people. But, they still looked like a zombie and had the zombie craven of the urge to eat human flesh.
This doctor was purported to have the complete cure and he did not want to share it. The meeting at the seaside resort was supposed to be the location where some type of negotiation was taking place for the doctor to put out the complete cure.
This is when I realized the patrons at the seaside resort were a combination of regular people and zombies. They were all sitting down on the beach chairs and tables like they were tourists. They were all there waiting on the outcome of the negotiations.
A television screen appeared in the resort’s lobby; the TV was on a news channel. The newscaster was talking about the zombie cure. The newscaster mentioned that the zombie cure will not cure the zombie condition and that it is only a band aide to a cut and not the resolution of the larger problem.
Meanwhile, the negotiation with the doctor wasn’t going so well. The doctor declared that he will not share the zombie cure. He said, “if I can’t have it, then nobody will.” It looked like the doctor was one of the half-cured zombie.
The half-cured zombies were upset; the seaside resort was in turmoil, the half cure zombies decided to take their frustrations out on the doctor.
The half-cured zombies started to chase the doctor, and the doctor ran on the beach and was heading into the ocean with the other half zombies in pursuit.
I thought, what is the use for the doctor to run into the ocean, the zombies would not drown, and they’re not scared of the ocean water either.
Then there was another shift in scenery. Now I’m seeing things through the doctor’s eyes. I saw the oceans waves and heard the thoughts of the doctor. His plan was to go underneath the ocean depths to escape the mob of zombies chasing him.
But when the doctor got into the ocean, the texture of the ocean water changed into a substance that didn’t feel like water. So the doctor did not go beneath the waves. The mob of zombies caught up with the doctor and they started to beat him up. Then someone in the mob shouted out “eat him!”
The zombies started to eat the doctor, one of the zombies had the doctor’s foot in their mouth and that zombie started to chew on the doctor’s toes. I could feel the zombie’s teeth chewing on my toes. The zombie started biting down harder on the doctor’s big toe and I could feel the pain on my big toe, then I abruptly woke and found that my big toe was hitting the metal part of the chair where I had my feet up, this accounted for the pain I felt on my big toe, I was just glad that the pain I felt didn’t come from a zombie, rat or mouse biting down on it.

That sounds horrendous!
I’ve had many experiences where my body is awake and still functioning but my brain has gone to sleep – when I’m really tired it happens. Also, when I’m watching my DVDs before bed, quite often nowadays I’m asleep but still wake up and laugh at the funny bits. It’s like my mind is still completely following the dialogue but my eyes are shut and sometimes I’m also dreaming so definitely asleep!
