Peter & Jane

Daily writing prompt
What’s the first book you ever finished and still remember to this day?

I can recall that I read my first books when I was in grade school aka elementary school. We were taught to read through a series of reading books. There were three categories of reading books. There was the “Ladybird” series, the “Griffin” series and the “Adventure” series.

The “Ladybird” series was the beginning of a child’s reading experience. The first book in the “Ladybird” series was 1a, the title of the book was called “Peter and Jane.”

The book followed the two characters “Peter” and “Jane” and their dog “Pat.” Around the 9a book, it introduced their older Cousins, “Simon and “John (I think).”

The “Ladybird” series ended with the 12b book and depending on the student’s development, they would go on to the midrange “Griffin” Series.

The “Griffin” series followed the adventures of the three pirates. Benjimen the “Blue Pirate,” Gregory the “Green Pirate” and Roderick the “Red Pirate.”

After that the advance reading books for ages up to ten years old would be the “Adventure” series. Books 13a through 25b. For the life of me I can’t remember any of those titles. Each book had independent stories.

Since I was a superior reader for my age, I skipped the “Griffin” series and went straight onto the “Adventure,” series. Unlike most of my peers who had to go through the “Griffin” series. Hell, there were only two of us in the whole class that finished the advance series. It was me and a female classmate.

Anyway, I suppose you have already guessed the first book that I finished. It was “Peter and Jane.” Yeah, I can remember I had a good time reading those books at that age. Today I can still remember the first few pages, because since I was a superior reader, I often had to tutor my peers, which resulted in some of the material being itched in my brain forever”
