Jay Walking

Daily writing prompt
Have you ever unintentionally broken the law?

Breaking the law unintentional happens all the time, and thinking about it I can admit that of done it numerous of times, realizing it after the fact. What gets me are those people who want to do everything by the book, that they will actually go out of their way to ensure that those not to break the law unintentional.

For example, when you decide to cross to the other side of the road before reaching the intersection. Yes, believe it or not, it is against the law if you do not cross the road at the intersection. It is called “Jay Walking.”

Even here in the great City of New York, Jay walking is illegal. But everyone does it, from school children to senior citizens. The majority doesn’t even know that they are breaking the law. It is very rear to non-existing that the Police will arrest or even give a citation to anyone who jay walks, unless that cop is an asshole who wants to fill their quota, or impress their command of the high number of tickets they write, or the cop wants to fuck with somebody for one reason or another.

But what gets me for something that everyone routinely does ( jay walks), is walking with a person who refuses to cross the street unless they do it at an intersection. Hell, they even refuse to cross the street at the intersection when the cross-walk light is red, even if  no cars are coming down the street.

Those types of people are irritating, and it make me want to reach out and slap the mess out of them. At best, they are annoying or paranoid. I can guarantee you that my friendship with those types of people end right then and there.

Otherwise, tell me someone who has not unintentional broken the law at some point in their lives, one time of another.
