Basement Party
I arrived back into my neighborhood after leaving the government building after a hard day’s work making the daily bread as a managing government bureaucrat. I felt a bit fatigue, I usually go to the gym to work off some stress. Instead, I took the opportunity to stop off at the supermarket to get some things that I should have got on the weekend.
After getting what I got, I drove to my block and was grateful that there was a parking spot in front of my building. I turned off the car’s engine, but before I got out the car the weight of the fatigue came crashing down, so I decided to take a few minutes to unwind before heading upstairs to the crib.
It seems that I was there a while because when I looked up I saw that there was some sort of music coming from the building’s basement.
I saw some of the building’s tenants go into the basement. I wondered if my father was having a party. I went down to the basement to investigate.
After I went in the basement I could see stacks of cases of beer piled up in a corner, and that I saw the old gramophone playing some music.
The gramophone only have one turntable so after each record was played it was a brief pause while the record was changed.
This was OK for an older crowd. Most of the building tenant’s fell into that category, so it wasn’t a big deal to them.
But some people decided to crash the party. They were young, and we didn’t want them to come into the party. But reluctantly they were let in.
But this crowd was used to the popular music that is on the radio airwaves. Lucky for them, my father did have up to date popular music.
But, being that the gramophone had one turn table the young group wasn’t satisfied. They went to the gramophone but couldn’t figure out that the music wasn’t being streamed. They seemed to be fascinated and they were interfering with the records being played.
They were wondering how a vinyl disc can be played by a needle. One of them picked up the arm and disconnected the cartridge, this got me mad, and I took the cartridge away from them and put it back where it belonged.
This is when I told everyone that the party was over that they had to leave. Some people went and left by themselves. But the young crowd were being defiant, and they started stealing the cases of beer.
I confronted them and started taking back what I could, then five of them decided that they wanted to jump me.
We scuffled but the five of them were starting to overpower me. When I was knocked to the ground and was about to be pummeled by the five of them. I remembered that I had a gun tucked in my waist band at the small of my back. I pulled out the gun and shot the perpetrators.
After shots were fired, the young crowd started to scatter, they dropped the stuff that they were stealing and hi-tailed it out of sight.
If anything else happened, I could not make any conscious sense of it because it was at the point after I fired the shots from the gun, and the perpetrators scattered that I realized everything was a dream when some type of noise jolted me out of the dream state.

When I was clearing out my parents’ house last year we found their old gramophone player. Unfortunately, although it would have been worth a lot of money as an antique, it had been stored in the garden shed so it fell apart!

sorry to hear that I wonder if it would still be worth it to restore its condition…
